To hire a wedding planner or not? That is the question on many bride and groom's minds as they prepare for the big day. Many people think hiring a planner is an unnecessary cost. While in some cases you may not need the extra help, but in many it is vital. Here are some situations where we know a wedding planner is a must;

Employee Spotlight: Christine Dirr

Besides providing you with the advantage of more than two decades of event planning expertise and access to the best venues and vendors, Event Kings is the flagship of a family of divisions that are exclusively dedicated to turning dreams into reality.

On your wedding day this task is especially important and fortunately for you, we’ve got an ace in our pocket. Christine Dirr is a full-time wedding coordinator for Weddings by Event Kings and holds a degree in Public Relations and Event Management from St. John’s University.
  
As the Director of Weddings and Social Events, Christine is available for custom event coordination during the planning phases and on that special day to ensure a seamless transition.

According to Christine, the favorite part of her job is seeing the satisfaction on her client’s face when they see their reception room for the first time. “Even though it is the same type of event, each room is unique to the client and I really love seeing how happy they are with the final product.”

One of the ways that Christine feels that her services are beneficial to any bride is that “The staff and myself make sure that everyone is where they need to be at all times, and even if an issue arises, it never makes it to the client and is taken care of before they even know it.” That way, when you look back on your wedding, you just remember that it was perfect.

Instead of having the bride deal with the issue, we were able to take care of everything and work with the venue to make sure that everything was resolved and that the reception still fit the vision and plan that the bride and I had established during our coordination sessions. The bride was extremely happy that everything was taken care of and that she didn’t have to deal any potentially catastrophic circumstances.”

For our Floral Friday for this week, we decided to do take a look at the floral centerpieces we have designed for various events.  All of our floral décor is beautifully hand-crafted by Event Kings' subdivision, King Lily Floral Design.
 
The top piece that we chose is made of gorgeous Hydrangeas, Asiatic Lilies, Spray Roses, Orange Roses and Veronica.

 Live Band at The New Yorker Hotel


Back in the day, Live Bands & Musicians were THE THING for any type of Wedding or Event.  But since the 1990's there has been an increasing changeover to using DJs. 


This trend is partly an effect of a dropping economy. Since people have less disposable income, they want more for their money, and when it comes down to it- DJs are cheaper than employing an entire Band. (We think technology had something to do with it also.) And of course there are still plenty of people who request Live Bands instead of DJs.

But the latest Trend that we are LOVING is DJ/Live Musician Hybrid.
   

We have been supplying a DJ/MC and some live musicians, such as an Electric Violinist, Saxophonist & Percussionist to chime in. Its an exciting mixture between the two. The DJ spins the same way he would normally, and the Live Musicians chime in and stroll around the dance floor interacting with guests.

According to The Knot- there are over 24,000 Weddings planned for 11/11/11.



In Numerology, 11/11 is a Power Number and has many positive attributes, such as; Emotional Intensity, Passion, Compassion, Sensitivity and Harmony.

With all those good characteristics, its no wonder why so many Brides & Grooms chose this day to tie the knot.


While our floral division-- King Lily Floral-- prepares for the wedding we have booked on 11/11/11, thousands of other Brides, Grooms, Event Planners, and Florists are applying the finishing touches to their wedding plans.

Blog Mini-Series: Outdoor Wedding Reception at Home


Many couples like to take advantage of the summer and have their wedding reception in their own backyard. It creates a sense of intimacy between the couple and the guests. Some couples love the idea of controlling every aspect of the wedding and others perceive that hosting an event at home can be more cost effective. Whatever the reason is, having your wedding in your own backyard can be a great experience, but there are limitations and factors that you need to take into consideration. Here are the two sides of the coin:

 Pros:

  • There isn’t a time limit: Your guests can stay for as long as they want.
  • There isn’t a site fee: It’s your home. Instead, you can invest the site fee on sprucing up your yard.
  •  You don’t need a property permit: Did you ever dream about getting married in The Hamptons? While this can be a beautiful location for your wedding reception, booking a property in The Hamptons can be time consuming because there is a lot of paper work and permits to file. If you have your wedding at home, you will not need to worry about any of that.
Tip: It’s easier to have a wedding reception at a private estate, so if you know someone who owns property in your ideal location you can ask if you can rent it.
  • Electricity is available: You can get electricity from your own lines, but you need to make sure that you have enough electricity for everything you will include on your reception. Otherwise you will need to get a generator.
  • The bride can get ready in a comfortable place: I think women are more comfortable getting ready in their bedroom because it is a familiar place. It might help to ease a bride’s nerves to get ready at her own home.
  •  It’s your style: You can customize the decoration according to your taste. Most venues on Long Island do not have a casual vibe—they usually have an elegant feel. For example, they are decorated with chandeliers and the like. So if you are looking for a casual venue, your backyard can be the perfect location.
  • A backyard wedding is more intimate: The space is smaller, so the couple and the guests are closer to each other.

Signs, signs everywhere there's signs

If you've read this blog before you'd know I love me some signage! Signs and labels are just so informative and we use them often to direct people at events (tip, the larger the event the more signs you need). But the best thing about signs and labels is that you can use them to personalize your event. There are so many ways to express yourself (see above) with the design, font, even materials you use. Or rope your crafty McCrafterson friend to help you. Here are some of my favorite examples...

Not that I need a sign to tell me where the bar is but this is super cute from the Australian based company I love Parties. Labeling drinks is great, especially if there are "virgin" and alcoholic versions.
